Life In a Day of a Camper

7/8/2013

Your typical camp day starts out around 7:30 a.m.  Every is starting to get up, shower, and getting ready for their morning activity.  Some will be changing into swimming gear for lake paddling, snorkeling, or even archery and the other half activities.  Others will be gearing up for horse back riding, caving, and this week we had skate boarders.

Then we all gather together behind the lodge at 8:00 for a fun blessing and then gorge ourselves with a yummy breakfast.  Pancakes, biscuits, french toasted sticked, eggs, the list goes on and on!

After cleaning up and settling down we join again at the back steps to sing in worship and then walk down the "Trail of Silence" (currently the side walk due to inclement conditions of the actual trail).  Then a brief word from our MIR of the week sends us off to our activities.

Half activities (Archery, mountain biking, snorkeling, lake paddling, and others) usually gets finished around around 10:30 and then they swim for the other half.  All activities gather back behind the hub (after changing into clean attire for lunch) at 12:00 and wait anxiously to be fed once again.  For lunch our lunches we have spaghetti, homemade soups, salads, and even chicken and mac!  By this time it's probably the staff's favorite time: FLAT TIME! Due to the high decrease in our energy we like to give everyone a chance to rest and chill for a few to prepare for the rest of the day.

Once flat time ends...depending on the age group...we either enjoy a light "wake up snack" and bible study and then activities  or we just meet in the chapel for our afternoon activities.

At 6:00 we gather together for...you guessed it MORE FOOD! (guess you don't have to worry about you're camper ever being hungry again!!) Chicken patties, and cheese burgers, and BBQ...and trust me there's PLENTY to go around! 2nds 3rds and even 4ths!  At dinner they are also treated to very yummy desserts!

At dinner's end, each night we have a night program.  Depending on the age some will go to "service time" (where they help do little odd jobs around camp to help keep camp nice...sweeping, trash, etc).  Each night and age group is a different night program.  Some nights will be dancing, others adventure games, camping under the starts, and we even have luau!  After our night program they get one last snack before they are off to bed to rest up to start it all over again!!

It's a wonder that your camper isn't dragging their tired worn out very happy selves across camp by Wednesday.  And of course do all the usual camp things like camp fires, s'mores, camp songs, and communion (on Thursdays).  Not a lot has changed over the years...but one thing is for sure...they keep coming back for more and we are more than happy to continue to share the love of Jesus Christ to your campers and we hope that you continue to enjoy readings these and come back to see what's new!
