"A Place Set Apart" is the place YOU want to be!

We are currently recruiting staff members for summer camp 2025, and applications will be available soon! We encourage you to think and pray about working at summer camp and then fill out your online application. Spend your summer sharing the love of Christ in the glory of God’s creation as a member of Camp Lookout’s Summer Camp Staff! Staff members have the opportunity to spend their summer outdoors while serving as role models, friends, and mentors to our campers. Applicants need to have three passions:
A love of God and interest in being involved in a Christian ministry
A love of children and youth and capability of caring for them 24 hours a day during camp
A love for the outdoors and being in God’s creation
We seek to hire staff members who not only live a life guided by these three passions, but are also willing to work together in a close community, while giving the best of themselves to ensure that each camper has the best camp experience possible. Working at camp reflects a model of servant leadership: being a leader, by being a servant first. This type of leadership serves the camp community as a whole, nurturing the personal growth of both campers and staff members. Making a difference in the lives of campers and a positive impact on one another is some of the most rewarding, joyful, and fun work you will ever do. It can also be demanding and trying work. Whatever the challenge, you’ll develop leadership skills and experience personal and spiritual growth throughout your summer of service. You will also make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Our staff members work together as a team to make camp happen each week, all summer. Summer Camp Staff at Camp Lookout fill three important roles: support staff, counseling staff, and leadership/specialty staff.
Support StaffSupport Staff are the youngest members of the staff, typically comprised of rising seniors and recent high school graduates. They must be a minimum of 16 years of age to be paid (anyone younger should fill out a Volunteer Form). Even though all Camp Lookout staff members practice servant leadership, support staff live this out in the most disciplined and selfless way. Support staff are the backbone of camp, involved in a lot of the behind-the-scenes work, such as setting up evening events and filling water coolers. In addition to attending to the many details that make camp run, support staff work closely with counselors and assist in leading Bible Studies and outdoor activities. They typically live in staff housing but may also serve as staff-camper ratio in cabins. This structure enables support staff to build strong relationships with campers, other staff members, and one another—all in a day’s work.
Leadership/Specialty StaffLeadership and Specialty Staff are mostly college students who oversee a particular program area or supervise an area of staff. Each of these positions requires unique skills and expertise. Positions vary from our Specialty to our Leadership Staff. All positions require previous camp experience OR equivalent skills and experience acquired elsewhere. Leadership and Specialty Staff not only oversee their particular areas of camp, they also serve as leaders and support for the rest of the camp staff, stepping in and fulfilling roles wherever they are needed. Leadership and Specialty Staff reside in staff housing but check in with counselors and campers frequently.

Counseling StaffCounseling Staff is the heart of camping ministry, providing campers with structure, a safe environment, and strong community of role models. They must be at least 18 years of age and have completed one year of college or work, or be at least 19 years of age. Counselors have leadership and supervisory responsibility for campers from the time campers arrive until the time they leave for home. Each camp session, counselors are assigned a group of campers to whom they offer emotional support, friendship, and guidance throughout the week. Counselors stay with campers in their cabins and lead a wide variety of outdoor activities throughout the week. By living and learning together, counselors form special bonds with campers and have the unique opportunity to change their lives forever.

Staff Training and Camp Expectations

Summer Camp Staff are required to participate in training at the beginning of the summer:
Dates TBD - Leadership Staff training begins

There will be additional adventure activity training and certification classes such as ropes, lifeguard, and paddling training (cost covered by Camp Lookout). Summer Camp Staff will be notified of dates for those trainings and classes. Adventure activity leaders, resource staff, and leadership/specialty staff may also be required to attend. These are also great opportunities for counseling and support staff to gain experience in many different activity areas, resulting in higher pay and adding variety to one’s summer!

Staff members stay at camp the entire week and depart on Fridays at approximately 6:00 pm. There are also many opportunities for staff to work on weekends to earn extra income!
