What a great week!  Our worship service was very special last night.  Rebekka Longmire (our Minister in Residence) was joined by her husband Paul (one of the pastors at Hixson UMC) to help us celebrate Holy Communion.  It was a very special time of worship and celebration (make sure you have your camper tell you all about this amazing worship). There were many tears of joy as well as concerns that were shared as we spent time in prayer with our friends and counselors.
This final morning of camp this week, we met at the pool at 6:50 for the  Polar Bear swim.  Out of our 86 campers, it looked like 78 of them took the "plunge" into the cold morning water!!!!!  What a way to start the day.
We will have breakfast (I think I heard something about French Toast Sticks) and another round of activities (we were rained out of our Thursday afternoon activities) before we head to lunch and start packing.
It has been a jam packed week!  Campers are worn-out, but they are full of joy.  It has been an incredible week!

Boom Boom Boom CAMP-ing Lookout

Yesterday was your typical camp day...Our famous Biscuits and gravy were enjoyed at breakfast, at lunch we had yummy homemade soup, and for dinner we indulged ourselves with BBQ.  Last night we played some fun games, made some s'mores, star gazed, and finally camped out! That's right we got to camp out under the stars (or under the chapel roof).  It was a great night of fun and campfire songs.  When we finally went to bed the rain hit so we had to retreat back to our cabins, but never the less the kids all had a great time!  Now they are going for round 5 of activities! Tonight we will have communion and share what we have gained from this week with each other as we gather for the

Singing and Laughing and Camping, OH MY!

Sorry for the late update, but we have been going 100 mph with fun and excitement today! We started the day with a pancake breakfast and some singing on the back steps of the lodge. After a few words from our Minister in Residence (MIR for short) Rebakka, we then were dismissed for our first activities of the week. We had some campers at the horse barn, some were fishing, biking, doing crafts, and other awesome Camp Lookout activities. At this point our kayakers headed out for their campsite which will be their home for the next two days.

After our activities we had a wonderful spaghetti lunch- some of the camp staff report that it is their favorite meal of the week! Then we headed to our cabins for some Flat Time- a time to rest up and maybe take a quick nap before our Bible Study, Chapel Time, and afternoon activities.

This afternoon we had campers all over the place as well. Some were caving, some were at the ropes course, and some got to make some really awesome crafts. After working up a really big appetite we had a wonderful dinner of Hamburgers, Tots, Baked Beans, and double Chocolate Cookies. While we at dinner we had some visitors that we would later get to help during our Adventure Game.

One of the high points of the day was the twice-annual Adventure Game. This is an exciting activity that just the 5th and 6th graders get to do, and it is a BLAST! During the game, Bible Study groups went all over camp; from the barn to the upper field, helping the visitors we met at dinner. One person, the queen of her land, could not laugh, so it was our job to help her laugh again. We also got to help a group of girls get their friend who was stranded in a canoe back to shore. We also met a knight, a fairy, and an herbalist whose assistant had lost something very important to her. We also learned about friendship at the barn with the dueling cowboys and how to build shelters for castaways.

We topped off the Adventure Game by putting all of our treasure that we collected during the night together. It turns out that they all formed a puzzle that read "Peace on Earth". We were reminded that its important to live in peace with one another.

To make sure we got out any last bit of energy we had, we ended the night with dances led by Lucy, who happens to look a lot like the queen we met during the adventure game...sounds pretty curious to me. We then had snack and are getting ready to head to bed for another day of fun tomorrow! Make sure you check back soon!!

We are so excited to have 90 campers with us this week at Camp Lookout. We have mostly 5th and 6th graders ready to have tons of fun with us this week, and we also have a small group of White Water Kayakers that will spend part of the week with us and part of the week at the river. This morning we kicked things off with Bible Study Group Initiatives and a picnic lunch. This afternoon we are meeting with our wonderful Minister in Residence, Rebekka, our fabulous Nurse, Mary, and picking our activities for the week. Tonight we will have some dancing and mixers before having our snack and heading to bed to get some rest for a full day of excitement tomorrow. Don't forget to check back to see what other adventures we will have this week

Jr High Week Of Many Adventures!

*Sorry for the lack of blog posts...it's been such an great week I forgot to update you.

This past week, although our numbers were short, we had TONS of fun!  With all the different camps within camp we had there was never a dull moment.  We had kayak camp, culinary camp, regular Jr High, horseback, and even a Leadership Adventure camper all of whom were able to experience the love of God AND enjoy their time at camp.

Monday - We had a rainy day as campers came to check in, but we were still able to do everything we had planned.  They got their fill of pool, food, dancing, and worship all before the sun went down!  They even had cookies and Milk with Don!  Our MIR (Minister in Residence) this week, Chris Dover, gave a great intro to this summers theme (Treasures of the Heart) as he put into perspective how great God really is.

Tuesday - More food and fun pursued as Tuesday came.  They got to do their first activity (which they signed up for Monday).  Our Culinary kids got to make salsa (which we ate Thursday night) YUMM! In the afternoon we had our Team Night Adventure Games where they got to work together as Bible study groups to go through different team building courses: All aboard in the pool, water ballon volleyball toss, crazy walk mud pit where they had to do a crazy walk and try and find marbles in a pit of mud...with their feet, and a slip-n-slide just for kicks.  After that they were treated to coke floats and we learned about what our "precious" is in relation to the treasures of our heart.

Wednesday - They did their third and forth rotation of activities.  The kayak campers went of to the river, culinary learned how to make pasta and sauces, and our leadership adventure camper learned how to lead different activities.  The MIR's message was about how we all can get along and how we can all be friends.  At night we had s'mores and sang camp fire songs, star gazed, and then they spent the night camping under the stars!

Thursday - By Thursday, after all the awesome stuff we'd done, you'd think everyone would be tired...NOPE! As we finished off our final rotations we still had plenty of fun to come.  As Chris gave his final lesson and we went into communion, the air inside the chapel was incredible.  There was so much love and kindness throughout the week we were blessed to see how life changing camp was this week.  Over half of the campers had rededicated their life to walk in the footsteps of God.  After this indescribable moment, we celebrated not only the week but the new commitments made.  We gathered in the lodge and had a blast! Singing, dancing, and just hanging out with one another.  Before the night ended we even got some Dancing with Don time!

As everyone said their final Goodbyes Friday, I think it's safe to say that everyone was able to leave camp with new friends, stories, and memories to last a life time.

Next week: Older Elementary.

    How are we doing?
Please take a moment to let us know how we are doing with the blog.  We would love to know how we can make it better.  Is there something we aren't putting that you'd like to see?  What do you like that we are doing? What do you not like?   Any and ALL the feed back helps!  Your name is optional and we will not give any information out.
    THANK YOU

We end this week with a huge success! The Jr High Service kids were able to help out around the community (both on and off camp) and even had fun in the process.  We ended our last night with a very powerful communion and an awesome after party.  We sang, we danced, we laughed, some cried, but in the end we created memories that last for years.  Thank you to all that joined us this week and for all of your hard work!

But the fun doesn't stop there! Along with our Jr high we also had over 50 First Centenary Day campers too!  They had a blast singing, dancing, swimming, mountain biking, and even creek walking!

**If you missed out this week, Don't worry...pictures will be posted**

What a great week we have had to start off this summer! Stay toned for next week when we take on the younger elementary, day camp, Horse backers, and skate boarders!
